Blackened Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

The band has formed in 2012 by João Wegher, Ariel Mariussi, César Veiga and Rafael Tabisz, with ideas to make songs sounding like Exodus and Metallica, this lineup lasted until march 2013, when Rafael and César left the band, so, Marcelo Augusto and Fernando Schwartz started to play in the band, in october, Ariel left the band, and Ulisses joined the band. In this lineup, Blackened recorded the demo, split and the EP. After the EP's recording, in june 2014, Fernando left the band for personal reasons, and João Vitor started to play the guitars, we played in some gigs in other cities releasing the EP, now we're still on the road releasing Underground Attack CD and preparing new songs for the Full Length.

2.So far you have released a demo, split and an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

We are based on the old school thrash metal, but we also have some influences from the new school's thrash\crossover. Then, we could describe it as energetic, fast and aggressive, with fast guitars and drums and also shrill and screaming vocals.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We like to write about social and politic problems, like corruption, tyranny and repression, also involving some critics to religion and extremism. But we write about the underground union and resistance too.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blackened'?

We were looking for a name that could remember something of the 80's bands, so we had the idea to look some songs from famous bands, like metallica and exodus. The first song from Metallica's And justice for all is called "Blackened", we all liked it then we chose it.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

The best gig we played was "Natal Sem Deus" means Christmas Without God, this show happened in Curitiba, and was so insane. Our stage performance is try to be the most energetic, insane and intense we can.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Sure! After the releasing of our Full Length, we plan to tour all over Brazil (we've already started it with our EP) and, if we have the opportunity, we wanna tour abroad, through places like Europe, America, etc...

7.A year ago you where a part of a split with Emergencia, what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

They are good friends, we like them very much, when we talked about the recording, we were thinking about a union of Thrash and Hardcore in a split CD, showing that is not separation of these genres of music, that doesn't matter if you prefer metal, punk or hardcore, we're always fighting for the underground resistance together!

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of thrash metal and crossover?

It doesn't make a big time that we had released our EP abroad, but in this time we received great support and recognition from countries like Argentina, Germany, England, Sweden and USA. People really liked our stuff and we're glad for this.

9.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other musical projects or bands these days?

Only Marcelo, he plays the drums in Murdeath, a speed thrash metal band with portuguese lyrics from Curitiba.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Our plans are to finish it in the middle of this year, or until september. The plans are also to keep the same sound line, but our new songs, that will be included in the full length, are more techniques and serious, nevertheless we're enjoying these new ones.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

In the beginning of the band, we were very influenced by Exodus, Metallica, Sepultura and Anthrax, now we're still listening to these bands, but also we are be very influenced by Lost Society, Vio-lence, Violator, Overkill and Testament.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We'd like to thank you for doing this interview with us, and soon we'll be releasing our full length, and it will be a insane and violent thrash album!
