Edgedown Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Andreas Meixner (Vocals), Mathias Gaßner (Guitar) and Michael Zebhauser (Guitar) formed the band back in 2008.
In 2011 the band-line-up was completed with Steve Rehrl (Bass) and Peter Ramspott (Drums).
At the beginning we were just covering songs, but a few months in we decided to do our own thing.
Following a 3-track-demo we decided to record a complete album and so we
wrote the songs for it.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound of the new album and also how does it differ from the demo you had released a few years back?

We call it "Modern Heavy Metal" because we combine our love for old stuff like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dio, etc. with a modern sound.
Our demo wasn't really different, I think we just developed our sound
further and improved our songwriting skills over time.

3.While the music is rooted in classic metal, the band has a more modern edge, do you feel this makes your music stand out?

Yes, that's probably what EDGEDOWN is all about. We don't try to follow any trends, we just write the songs and see what happens.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The main message in most of our songs is, never stop dreaming and fight for your dreams no matter how hard it seems.
Social criticism is also a big part of it.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Edgedown'?

It means to break all limits and go one step further than everyone else.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I think our favourite show was a support gig for Epica and Serenity back in 2011 in Salzburg (Austria) which was sold out with an absolutely amazing crowd.
Our stage performance is energetic and lends itself to headbanging and we are just who we are, we don't try to be actors on stage.
Honest heavy metal from 5 young guys.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

We are planning some gigs right now and if everything works out well for us we try to do a tour of course.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of heavy and power metal?

The feedback we got over the last few weeks was simply amazing.
We’ve got great reviews and awesome new fans from all over the world already.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Everyone in the band is developing his skills and his own style, but it’s hard to say how we’ll sound in the future.
Different for sure, but probably an evolution of style rather than a revolution.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I would say all kinds of heavy metal and hard rock since 1970 until now had an influence on us.
Every member of our band has a different taste in music, so just for example: Iron Maiden, Metallica, DIO, Savatage, Iced Earth, and many more.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Besides our jobs and our music we don't have so much spare time for other interests.
We do some fitness to keep in shape as much as possible and of course we
party a lot. ;)

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or
thoughts?

Metalheads out there, listen to our brand new album "Statues Fall", visit us on our shows and tell us what you think about our music.
